Fish Passage 2027 — Call for Abstracts and Award Nominations
The International Fish Passage Conference 2027 will take place June 7 to 11, 2027 in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. This flagship even from the Joint Committee on Fisheries Engineering and Science brings researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers together to exchange ideas and advance fish passage, river connectivity, and ecological restoration. The conference returns to Europe for the first time since 2015.
Share your research and experience
Abstract submissions are open across a broad range of topics relevant to the ecohydraulics community, including:
- Fish migration, behavior, and population restoration
- Fish passage solutions, monitoring, and new technologies
- Barrier removal and river connectivity
- Estuarine and transitional-water connectivity
- Climate-change impacts, policy, cooperation, and social dimensions of restoration
Abstract submission deadline: October 31, 2026.
Nominate outstanding people and projects
Nominations are also open for two Fish Passage 2027 awards:
- Career Achievement Award — recognizing a professional’s significant and lasting contribution to fish passage.
- Distinguished Project Award — recognizing an innovative, technically excellent project with demonstrated ecological benefits for fish passage, river connectivity, and habitat.
A special Dutch opportunity
The conference is planned to coincide with the opening of the Fish Migration River at the Afsluitdijk, a project designed to reconnect the Wadden Sea and Lake IJsselmeer for migratory fish. Participants will have an opportunity to visit the project area as part of the conference program. So:
